I am often asked as an Albany Divorce Attorney about obtaining a New York State Divorce if you just moved here.  New York recognizes out of state marriages to allow a judgment of divorce, with requirements of residency.  I advise clients as an Albany Divorce Attorney that you and your spouse must be residents of NYS for at least one year, but if only one of the spouses lives in NYS, it will take over two years to complete.
