Fear of Seeing the Defendant in Court

court house

If you’re afraid to see the respondent in court, notify a court officer once you arrive. If you don’t want to be around the respondent, don’t want to see them, or are scared that they are going to hurt you, that court officer can take you to a safe room while you wait to go into the courthouse. In addition, that court officer can escort you from what ever room you are in, to the court, and back. Also, you are entitled to bring a friend, a family member, or an advocate. The point is, you never have to be alone. You can always be with someone, and you should never feel scared.
