Question:
Who pays for extracurricular activities after divorce?
Answer:
In the State of New York, with regard to child support, there exist two chief components: basic child support, a calculation that is determined by a statute called the Child Support Standards Act, and add-on expenses on top of a parent’s basic child support obligation. Those add-on expenses are unreimbursed medical expenses, health insurance premiums, and daycare expenses. Extracurricular activity expenses are not necessarily included, but parents who have a separation agreement can agree in a divorce to include them, even though they are not required to do so by the statute.
