Once an action for divorce is commenced, certain temporary orders automatically go into effect. If you filed for divorce, those orders take effect immediately upon your filing of the action. If your spouse filed, those orders are effective as to you when you are served in the action for divorce. Those automatic orders prohibit you from removing your spouse from certain insurance policies, from changing life insurance beneficiaries, and from terminating health insurance or car insurance. If you have concerns about the amounts that are being paid out to cover various bills or insurances, please talk with your attorney and learn what you are permitted to do and what you must not do to avoid running afoul of those temporary orders.
