Does Child Support End at Age 21?

Question:

Does Child Support End at Age 21My child turns 21 in a few months but still has two more years of college needed to achieve a Bachelor’s degree. If a child is a full-time college student, does child support obligation end at age 21 or continue until that child graduates?

Answer:

In NY, child support terminates at the age of 21. Parents can extend that time by written agreement. Without an agreement, a court has no authority to order the payment of child support past the age of 21.
