Paying for Health Insurance Premiums

Can I be obligated to pay for my ex wife’s new husband for health insurance premiums?

Paying for Health Insurance PremiumsQuestion:

My children’s mother and I share joint custody of our children. For the past six years she has carried insurance for our children (she had better insurance) and I have happily paid for half of the additional cost to cover our two children.
She has remarried and her husband had a family plan already (which includes his children) and added the mother and my two children to his plan, at no additional cost to him. My children’s mother is now telling me that I must pay half of his family plan premium minus the cost of a two person plan, essentially paying half the cost for his children as well.
I feel that since there was no added cost to him, and now no cost to the mom, then there should be no cost to me. Am I wrong here? How does this work?

Answer:

It depends on the Support Magistrate who handles your case. Some will take the position that there was no additional cost to add your children to his plan. Others will state that the cost has to be shared/divided between all who were on the plan.
