Paying for Mortgage and Other Bills in the Divorce Process

shutterstock_166929554Often times during a Divorce action, people are concerned about how mortgage, utilities, and debts will be paid. In some cases, one spouse will abandon those responsibilities financially, and it is up to the court to ensure that the status quo is maintained. The court may direct the withdrawn spouse, or both spouses, to continue contributing to the household expenses. You can see this when spouses are continuing to co-habit during a Divorce action, or if they have physically separated. The idea is to maintain the status quo, ensure equity and assets are maintained, make sure house bills are paid, and that debts are continued to be paid, up to date.
