Saratoga Child Support Lawyer Discusses Being Forced to Pay College Expenses

Saratoga Child Support LawyerAs an experienced Saratoga Child Support Lawyer, I am often asked if the court can require you to pay college expenses.  College support is not a mandatory add-on under the Child Support Standards Act. It is discretionary, and a court can order either party to pay for some or all of their children’s college expenses. In making its decision, the court will consider the family’s resources, the amount of income available to both parties, the parties’ education and their pre-divorce educational expectations for their children.
