Family Court Order

Child SupportQuestion:

I received a Family Court Order in 2009, ordering me to pay child support until my daughter is 21.  I also am responsible for paying her out of pocket medical expenses, for which I’ve been doing, but only recently because the custodial parent has only recently sent me bills. The other day, I got bills for expenses going back to 2009, and they total about $2,000. There was no explanation on my wife’s part by the delay, and to be hit with such a “bill” , for which she demands immediate remuneration in full is very difficult for me. 1) What can I do about it? 2) Is there a time limit that she had in order to claim these expenses?

Answer:

Some orders require that bills for uncovered medical expenses be provided within thirty or sixty days. You should check your documents to see if there is any requirement that she do so. If not, you could file a petition to modify the order to require that she provide you with proof of expenses within that time period so that you are not confronted with unexpected large bills in the future.
