I’m Afraid to See the Respondent of an Order of Protection in Court

Saratoga Family Law AttorneySaratoga Family Law Attorney on Being Afraid of Seeing the Respondent of an OOP in Court

As an experienced Saratoga Family Law Attorney, I am often asked what to do if you are afraid of seeing the responded of an order of protection in court.  If you’re afraid to see the respondent in court, seek out one of the court officers typically standing or sitting outside of the courtroom as soon as you arrive at the courthouse. They will escort you to a separate room away from the respondent. When you are called for your court appearance, they will escort you to the courtroom. Then, once your case is concluded, they will escort you out of the courtroom. I also recommend that you bring a friend or a family member – or even an advocate – with you because you should never feel alone or scared.
