Generally, your spouse will have to be personally served with the divorce papers (e.g. Summons with Notice or Summons with Verified Complaint) for you to be able to proceed with the divorce. However, with permission of the Court, you can use an alternative method of serving him, such as service by publication. This requires the filing of a motion to the Court.
